Eddie Howe shortens in next manager to be sacked markets

âš½ Update: Eddie Howe survived the 2025/26 season at Newcastle but faced a formal end-of-season review, with CEO David Hopkinson reportedly believing Howe would be leaving. Reports suggest Newcastle had set their sights on Oliver Glasner as a potential replacement. The situation remains unresolved at the time of writing.

What are the odds on Eddie Howe to be sacked?

Eddie Howe is under increasing pressure at Newcastle United after a difficult week that has seen his odds cut sharply in the next manager to be sacked market. The Newcastle boss is now priced at 5/1, having been as big as 16/1 before the weekend, following a damaging run of results that has raised questions about his future.

Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Sunderland proved especially costly. The loss at St James’ Park not only completed a league double for their local rivals but also marked Sunderland’s first away win at Newcastle in nearly a decade. The result was met with boos from the home supporters at full-time.

Newcastle’s current position in the table has added to the concern. Sitting 12th and with five defeats in their last nine matches across all competitions, there is a growing feeling that the season is drifting away. The derby setback came just days after a heavy 7-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, which ended their European campaign in emphatic fashion.

Fulham v Burnley – How to watch, What TV Channel is the game on?

Fulham host Burnley on Saturday in the Premier League’s only 3pm kick-off, with both sides chasing very different objectives as the season enters its final weeks.

The Cottagers remain in the hunt for a European place, but a run of three matches without a win in all competitions has slowed their progress. There are growing concerns that their campaign is losing momentum at a crucial stage.

Burnley arrive in urgent need of points as they battle to avoid relegation. The Clarets sit 19th in the table, nine points from safety with eight games remaining, leaving little margin for error.

Fulham v Burnley Live Stream Details

The match will not be shown live on TV in the UK due to the Saturday 3pm blackout rule. Highlights will be available after full-time on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel and via the Sky Sports app.

There is still a path for Burnley to close the gap, with four of their next five fixtures coming against teams in the bottom half. This trip to Craven Cottage could prove key to their survival hopes.

Recent visits to Fulham will give the visitors some encouragement. Burnley have won their last three matches at Craven Cottage without conceding, scoring seven goals across those victories. They have also picked up positive results in London recently, including a win at Crystal Palace and a draw at Chelsea.

Fulham’s recent struggles in front of goal have added to their concerns. They have failed to score in their last three matches, including defeats at home to West Ham and Southampton, as well as a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.

Their home form has also dipped, with three defeats in their last four matches at Craven Cottage. Burnley, who have avoided defeat in six of their last 10 league games, may see this as an opportunity to take something from the contest.

A low-scoring game could be on the cards. Fulham have lacked attacking threat in recent weeks, while Burnley showed defensive resilience in their goalless draw with Bournemouth and have kept clean sheets in each of their last three visits to this ground.

    Kick off time

Fulham v Burnley will kick off at 3pm on Saturday.

Ipswich Town welcome Millwall on Saturday in a key Championship clash as the race for promotion gathers pace.

The Tractor Boys sit third in the table and have remained in the play-off positions throughout the campaign, though they have struggled to break into the top two. A run of six matches without defeat has kept them within touching distance, sitting just two points behind second place with a game in hand.

Millwall arrive level on points with their hosts, underlining the importance of this meeting. The Lions saw a four-match winning run ended by a 2-1 defeat to Blackburn in their last outing but remain firmly in the mix for automatic promotion.

Their away form has been a key factor in their push up the table. Millwall have won nine of their matches on the road this season and have claimed victories in each of their last four away fixtures.

Only one team has managed to win away at Ipswich in the league this season, though that result may offer encouragement for Millwall as they look to strengthen their promotion bid.

With both sides pushing for a place in the top two, this fixture could have a major impact on how the table shapes up in the coming weeks.

Preston NE v Stoke City Live Stream – Where to watch on TV Today

Preston North End welcome Stoke City to Deepdale on Friday night with both sides looking to finish the season on a positive note. Each team made a promising start to the campaign but have since fallen out of the race for a Championship play-off place. With only a handful of games remaining, pride is now the main motivation.

Preston head into the fixture on a poor run of form, having lost each of their last four league matches. The dip has halted any late push up the table and increased pressure on the squad to respond. Stoke arrive in better spirits after securing a 3-1 victory over Watford in their previous outing and will be aiming to build on that result.

How to watch Preston North End v Stoke City

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Ultra HDR for viewers in the UK. Fans can also stream the game live through the Sky Sports app on a range of devices including smartphones, tablets and laptops. For more upcoming fixtures on TV, see our Championship TV schedule.

    Kick-off time

Preston North End v Stoke City takes place at Deepdale on Friday 20 March 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm GMT.

    Preston v Stoke Prediction

Preston’s early-season resilience has faded in recent weeks, with Paul Heckingbottom’s side struggling for form at a crucial stage of the campaign. Another underwhelming finish looks likely to frustrate supporters, given North End have lost five of their last seven matches at Deepdale.

Stoke arrive with renewed confidence after their 3-1 win over Watford, a result that has kept their play-off hopes alive heading into the final stretch. The Potters have shown enough quality to trouble Preston, particularly against a side that has lost four matches in a row. While Stoke may hold the edge, recent meetings between the teams suggest a close contest. Each of the last three encounters has ended in a draw, which remains a possible outcome again.

🕒 Last Updated: 25 February 2026 – Odds and market information correct at time of last update. Please check with your bookmaker for current prices.

West Bromwich Albion are searching for a new manager after parting company with Eric Ramsay following just nine matches in charge. Ramsay arrived at The Hawthorns in January but failed to secure a single win. His side drew four and lost five of those games, conceding 18 goals along the way. Heavy home defeats to Norwich and Middlesbrough proved costly, while the team managed only five goals during his spell. The club sit just one point above the Championship relegation zone, with survival a similar challenge facing Leicester City further down the table.

He becomes the third manager to leave in the past 14 months. Carlos Corberan departed for Valencia CF, and Tony Mowbray was dismissed before the end of last season. With the Baggies fighting to preserve their Championship status, the board face a major decision over who can steady the situation.

    James Morrison

Morrison will step in as interim manager for the third time in his coaching career. The former Scotland international made 341 appearances for the club and has a strong bond with supporters. He first took temporary charge after Mowbray’s exit last April and returned to the dugout again when Ryan Mason left in January. Across three matches as interim boss, he remains unbeaten.

    Lee Carsley

Carsley continues to be linked with Championship vacancies after his success with England Under 21s. He has twice guided the Young Lions to European Championship glory and enhanced his reputation as a coach. The England senior role may be a long-term ambition, though Thomas Tuchel is contracted in that position until 2028. That situation could open the door for Carsley to consider a move into club management sooner than planned.

    Will Still

Will Still’s first Championship post did not bring the results he wanted, yet his work in France has kept his name in circulation. West Brom could present an opportunity to steady the club and build towards next season. The immediate priority would be avoiding relegation. With players such as Aune Selland Heggebo, Daryl Dike, Jayson Molumby and Alex Mowatt expected to remain, there is a core to work with moving forward.

    Slaven Bilic

Bilic has been without a club since leaving Al-Fateh SC in 2024 and has recently been linked with several roles. The Croatian guided West Brom to automatic promotion in the 2019/20 Championship campaign. A return to The Hawthorns would be popular among many supporters as the club seek stability during a tense period of the season.

Sheffield Utd v Coventry City: How to Watch on TV Today & Kick Off Time

Championship leaders Coventry City travel to Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening for a fixture that could have a significant bearing on the promotion race.

Frank Lampard’s side have rediscovered their rhythm after a dip in form around the turn of the year, with back-to-back victories over Middlesbrough and West Brom restoring confidence and sending them back to the top of the table with momentum building.

Sheffield United are giving their own supporters plenty to believe in. Wins over Portsmouth and local rivals Sheffield Wednesday have lifted the Blades to within six points of the play-off places, and the feeling around the club is that a late push for the top six is far from out of reach.

For all of Coventry’s recent form, this trip comes with its own complications. They have not won at Bramall Lane since 2013, and Sheffield United have lost just once at home in their last ten league matches, making them a difficult side to break down on their own patch.

Coventry’s away record also invites scrutiny, with only one win from their last nine matches in all competitions raising questions about their consistency on the road.

How to watch Sheffield United v Coventry City

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports+, with live streaming available through the Sky Sports app for subscribers.

    Kick-off time and venue

Sheffield United v Coventry City kicks off at 19:45 GMT on Wednesday 25 February at Bramall Lane.

    Head-to-head record

The two sides are remarkably evenly matched historically. Sheffield United have won 25 of the previous meetings, Coventry City have also won 25, with 20 draws separating the two sides across their shared history.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch Middlesbrough F.C. v Leicester City F.C. in the Championship.

Middlesbrough F.C. will aim to reignite their Championship title push when they welcome struggling Leicester City F.C. to the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night.

Boro have taken just one point from their last two league matches and now sit three points behind leaders Coventry City. Kim Hellberg’s side remain six points clear of third-placed Millwall, but this fixture represents a valuable opportunity to return to winning ways on home soil.

Leicester’s situation is far more precarious. A recent points deduction has dropped the Foxes into the bottom three and they are winless in eight matches across all competitions. Gary Rowett has been tasked with steering them to safety and oversaw a 2-2 draw with Stoke City last weekend, though this trip to Teesside presents a far sterner challenge.

NOW can be accessed via web browser or through apps on most smart TVs, streaming devices, games consoles and mobile devices.

Leicester’s plight looks serious, but Rowett’s experience could yet bring some stability. Even so, a visit to Middlesbrough may come too soon for the new boss as he attempts to implement his ideas.

Boro boast the third-best home record in the division, with only Coventry and Ipswich Town collecting more points at home. They have lost just two of their 16 Championship games at the Riverside and should possess enough quality to edge this contest.

Leicester’s away record is a concern, with only four wins from 17 on the road, and they have failed to beat Boro in their last five meetings. However, the Foxes have scored in 10 consecutive away matches and their fight for survival should see them carry a threat.

Middlesbrough’s recent dip in form hints at vulnerability despite a strong defensive record at home. Given Leicester’s attacking consistency away from home, a home win with both teams finding the net at 11/5 stands out as the preferred play.

Wrexham A.F.C. and Portsmouth F.C. meet at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday with both sides enjoying an upturn in fortunes in the Championship.

Wrexham have surged into the play-off places and sit sixth after a thrilling 5-3 victory over Ipswich Town at the weekend. Phil Parkinson’s side have taken 20 points from their last 10 league matches, a run that has transformed their campaign after spending much of the season in mid-table.

Portsmouth have also found form at a crucial time. Back-to-back 3-1 away wins over Charlton Athletic and Millwall have moved Pompey six points clear of the relegation zone and up to 19th. Confidence is clearly growing under pressure, even if injuries continue to test their depth.

The first meeting between the sides this season ended in a goalless draw at Fratton Park in November. A repeat of that low-scoring affair looks unlikely given both teams’ recent attacking output, but another stalemate cannot be ruled out.

Wrexham have beaten Ipswich in both the FA Cup and the league in their last two home outings, yet this represents a sterner test against a Portsmouth side that has tightened up defensively and shown resilience on the road. Pompey’s only two defeats in their last eight games came via narrow 1-0 scorelines against Preston North End and Sheffield United.

A third consecutive away victory for Portsmouth may be a stretch given their injury list, but at the available prices the draw appeals. Both teams are in far better shape than they were in November, and a competitive contest that ends level would be no surprise in Wales.

Leicester City are searching for a successor to Marti Cifuentes, with the club staring at the prospect of back-to-back relegations. A six-point deduction has added to their troubles and four straight defeats have dragged the Foxes deeper into danger. With confidence low and time running short, the board face a major decision over who can steady the situation in the Championship. For context, West Brom are facing a similar survival battle just above the bottom three.

    Gary Rowett

Gary Rowett has been linked with the vacancy and is thought to be under consideration, while also attracting interest from Blackburn Rovers. Rowett was dismissed by Oxford United in December 2025 with the club sitting 22nd in the table. His record in the second tier remains strong, having managed several Championship sides across his career. Ralph Hasenhuttl

Ralph Hasenhuttl has been out of work since leaving Wolfsburg in May 2025. He previously managed RB Leipzig and is best known in England for his four-year spell at Southampton. The Austrian coach has spoken warmly about his time in the Premier League and may welcome a return to English football. His high-energy approach could offer Leicester a new direction during a difficult campaign.

    Russell Martin

Russell Martin is looking to rebuild after a short stint at Rangers ended after 17 matches in October. His time at Southampton also concluded with relegation pressure mounting. Despite those setbacks, Martin guided Southampton to promotion from the Championship through the play-offs, a key part of his managerial record that could appeal to Leicester’s hierarchy.

    Andy King

First-team coach Andy King has stepped in on an interim basis while the club assess their options. His early results have not lifted the mood and he recently criticised the squad following defeat to Southampton. King is still learning his trade in coaching, yet his standing at the club is strong. He made more than 350 appearances for Leicester and played a role in the 2015/16 Premier League title triumph.

    Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard has been mentioned in connection with the job. He was previously close to a return to Ibrox before Danny Rohl’s appointment and has spoken about his desire to get back into management. His experience in England came during his spell at Aston Villa. A move to the Championship may suit his current standing as he looks to re-establish himself in the dugout. Leicester’s next appointment could shape the club’s immediate future, with survival in the second tier now the priority.

  • Next Tottenham Manager Odds: De Zerbi Appointed After Frank Sacking

Next Tottenham Manager Odds: De Zerbi Appointed After Frank Sacking

🚨 UPDATE, June 2026: Roberto De Zerbi was appointed Tottenham head coach on 31 March 2026 on a five-year contract, replacing interim manager Igor Tudor. He joined with Spurs sitting one point above the relegation zone and went on to secure Premier League survival with a 2-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season, finishing with 11 points from his seven games in charge. Read on for the full pre-appointment odds breakdown and analysis.

The 2025-26 season became one of the most turbulent in Tottenham Hotspur’s recent history, with the club cycling through three permanent or interim managers between the summer and the end of March and spending much of the second half of the campaign fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League for the first time since 1977. What had started with genuine optimism after the appointment of Thomas Frank in June 2025 unravelled badly, leaving the club in crisis and the bookmakers’ odds markets in a state of constant flux as speculation about replacements grew louder throughout February and into March.

OddsBoom looks back at the full manager odds market that formed around the time of Frank’s sacking, the candidates who were in the frame, and how the situation ultimately resolved itself by the end of the season.

    How Tottenham’s Season Fell Apart

Thomas Frank arrived at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2025 as the successor to Ange Postecoglou, whose Europa League triumph in the 2024-25 season had not been enough to save his job given a poor domestic campaign. Frank brought with him a strong reputation earned over seven seasons at Brentford, where he had taken the club from the Championship into the Premier League and secured consecutive top-half finishes in the top flight. His appointment was broadly welcomed, with many believing his organised and direct style of football could help stabilise a squad that had underperformed in the league for two consecutive seasons.

The early signs in Europe were encouraging, with Spurs reaching the Champions League round of 16 and finishing fourth in the league phase. Domestically, however, the picture was far more concerning. Tottenham managed only two wins in their first 17 Premier League matches of the season and failed to win a single league game throughout January and into February 2026. A 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on 10 February extended the winless run to eight matches and left the club in 16th place with 29 points from 26 games, sitting just five points above the relegation zone. The board acted immediately, releasing a statement the following day confirming Frank’s departure after eight months in charge.

Igor Tudor’s Brief and Damaging Stint

Rather than immediately appointing a permanent replacement, Tottenham turned to Igor Tudor as an interim manager, confirming his appointment on 13 February 2026. The Croatian had experience managing clubs including Juventus, Lazio, Marseille, Verona and Galatasaray, and had most recently guided Juventus to a fourth-place finish in Serie A before being dismissed in October 2025 after an eight-match winless run. The plan was for Tudor to take charge until the end of the season while the club conducted a proper search for a permanent appointment in the summer.

It did not go to plan. Tudor’s reign began with three consecutive defeats against Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace, making him only the second Tottenham head coach in the club’s history to open with three straight losses, following Martin Jol in November 2004. His only point from five Premier League matches came in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, and he also oversaw a Champions League last-16 exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid, with Spurs losing 7-5 on aggregate across the two legs. After just seven games and 44 days in charge, with Tottenham sitting one point above the relegation zone and seven league matches remaining, Tudor was dismissed on 29 March 2026.

Next Tottenham Manager Odds (At Time of Frank’s Sacking, February 2026)

Odds correct at time of original publication, February 2026.

    Candidate Odds
    Roberto De Zerbi 2/1
    Mauricio Pochettino 2/1
    Robbie Keane 6/1
    John Heitinga 6/1
    Ruben Amorim 10/1
    Marco Silva 16/1
    Oliver Glasner 16/1
    Edin Terzic 18/1
    Ryan Mason 20/1
    Xabi Alonso 20/1

Roberto De Zerbi at 2/1 (Got the Job)

Roberto De Zerbi was one of two joint-favourites at the time of Frank’s sacking, and his position in the market made considerable sense given his availability and his track record in English football. He had left Marseille by mutual consent in February 2026 after one full season in Ligue 1, where he guided the club to a second-place finish, and was widely regarded as one of the most tactically progressive coaches in European football. His two years at Brighton between 2022 and 2024 had earned him admiration far beyond what his club’s size would typically attract, with the Seagulls qualifying for European competition for the first time in their history and reaching the FA Cup semi-final. Pep Guardiola was among those who publicly praised his methods, describing Brighton under De Zerbi as playing in a way that no other team in the Premier League could replicate.

He was confirmed as Tottenham’s new head coach on 31 March 2026 on a five-year deal, inheriting a squad in the relegation zone with seven games remaining and without a league win in 2026. The task was as difficult as it sounds, but De Zerbi chose pragmatism over the high-risk positional football he had become known for, simplifying his methods and selections to get immediate results. Spurs beat the drop on the final day of the season with a 2-0 win over Everton, collecting 11 points from their final seven matches and finishing the campaign in 18th place but safe, with enough points to stay up by goal difference. De Zerbi described the achievement as incredible and made clear his focus immediately shifted to rebuilding the squad for a much more ambitious 2026-27 campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino at 2/1 (Did Not Get the Job)

Pochettino was priced alongside De Zerbi as joint-favourite at 2/1, which reflected the enormous affection he still holds among the Tottenham fanbase and his enduring status as the most successful manager in the club’s modern era. The Argentine spent five years at Spurs between 2014 and 2019, transforming them into genuine Champions League contenders and guiding them to the final in Madrid in 2019, where they were beaten by Liverpool. His sacking that November, despite that level of achievement, remained a controversial decision among supporters, many of whom continued to call for his return throughout subsequent managerial appointments.

By the time of Frank’s sacking, Pochettino had been in charge of the United States national team and was preparing his squad for the summer World Cup on home soil. That commitment made any immediate return to club management difficult to negotiate, and the urgency of Tottenham’s relegation battle ultimately ruled him out as a realistic short-term candidate despite his position at the top of the market.

Robbie Keane at 6/1 (Did Not Get the Job)

Robbie Keane was the most eye-catching name in the market at 6/1, with his inclusion reflecting both his emotional connection to the club and his growing managerial credentials. Keane remains Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer and had two separate spells at White Hart Lane across his playing career, making him one of the most popular figures in the club’s history. His managerial work in Hungary with Ferencvaros, where he was in charge of the reigning champions, had given him credibility as a coach, but the scale of the challenge Spurs faced and the need for immediate Premier League experience made a more established appointment the only realistic option for the board.

John Heitinga at 6/1 (Did Not Get the Job)

John Heitinga was priced alongside Keane at 6/1, having built a reputation as a thoughtful and progressive young coach through his work in the Ajax academy system and a spell as interim manager of the first team. The former Everton and Netherlands defender had drawn positive attention from clubs looking for a modern, technically minded coach, and his presence in the Tottenham market at that price reflected genuine interest from sections of the media, though he was ultimately not part of the club’s deliberations.

Ruben Amorim at 10/1 (Did Not Get the Job)

Ruben Amorim featured in the Tottenham market at 10/1 having recently departed Manchester United, a situation covered in our Next Man Utd Manager Odds article. His availability at short notice made him a name that appeared across multiple manager markets simultaneously, and his record at Sporting CP had been strong enough to generate interest from clubs across Europe. However, his brief and difficult spell at Old Trafford had raised questions about whether his preferred style of play could be adapted quickly enough for a club in crisis, and Tottenham opted for De Zerbi’s Premier League experience instead.

    The Rest of the Market

Marco Silva at 16/1 had been doing impressive work at Fulham and was not a realistic candidate to leave mid-season, while Oliver Glasner at 16/1 was similarly settled at Crystal Palace, where he had built a well-drilled and consistent side. Glasner had also been linked with the vacancy at Stamford Bridge, as detailed in our Next Chelsea Manager Odds piece from the same period. Edin Terzic at 18/1 had been out of work since leaving Borussia Dortmund and was a credible name in the market, while Ryan Mason at 20/1 offered a familiar internal option given his previous interim spell at the club. Xabi Alonso at 20/1 was by that stage one of the most talked-about managerial prospects in world football, though the likelihood of him moving to a club fighting relegation was always slim.

What Happened After De Zerbi’s Appointment

De Zerbi’s first match in charge ended in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland, with Spurs having dropped into the relegation zone for the first time since January 2009 following a West Ham win earlier that day. The situation looked bleak, but the results gradually turned over the following weeks as De Zerbi simplified his setup and got a response from a squad that had looked short of confidence for months. The 2-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season was enough to keep Tottenham up, and De Zerbi was already speaking in the immediate aftermath about wanting to build a stronger and more competitive team for the season ahead.

The 2025-26 campaign will be remembered as one of the most chaotic in the club’s recent history, with four different individuals taking charge across the course of the season if you include the period before Frank arrived, and Tottenham finishing 18th and surviving only on goal difference. Whether De Zerbi can turn things around in 2026-27 is the question that now occupies supporters, but the manner in which he steadied the ship after Tudor’s departure at least gives grounds for optimism heading into the summer.
